01 The Challenge
Aptiv makes the technology inside vehicles — radar, sensors, the systems that tell a car when to brake and when to stop. They operate across 48 countries, 150 facilities, and more than 200,000 people on shop floors around the world. The stakes of getting safety wrong aren't abstract. They're human.
For years, EHS ran the way most large manufacturers run it: in fragments. Each region had its own system. Safety lived in one place. Environmental data lived somewhere else. Occupational health was tracked in spreadsheets inside medical centers that didn't talk to each other.
Before the transformation, we had multiple systems that were outdated, not effective, and far from centralized. We were not capable of doing effective analysis of the outcome.

The real problem wasn't the data. It was what they couldn't do with it.
Aptiv wasn't flying blind. Safety, environmental, industrial hygiene, occupational health, ergonomics — each discipline tracked, each region reporting. The problem was that none of it talked to each other.

spent validating data to issue a single sustainability report — in a sector where regulators ask in real time.
Without cross-site visibility, similar incidents were happening at different plants in different countries. Same equipment. Same process. Same injury. No one could see the pattern.

The integrations mattered as much as the modules. Safety data fed directly into sustainability dashboards. Workday connected to Cority's sustainability solution so employee demographics flowed automatically from HR. No re-entry. No manual transfer. No opportunity for error.
